I'm here now, in this place called Bali. The journey here wasn't too bad at all, during the Vancouver layover I took a train to town and had a beer then when we hit the air toward Hong Kong at 3am I was out like a light. Woke up somewhere over the north pacific only 3 hours from touchdown!
Hong Kong is an incredible looking place, no apparent rural areas leading to the central zones. It's highrise or nuthin, multitudes of uniform buildings rising strait up from the waters edge. The airport was a maze of escalators and catwalks leading through boutique store fronts lewering travelers with J-lo's latest fragrance and sparkly watches. I got a bowl of noodle soup with something delicious in it that I'm still not sure if it was meat or a mushroom, but I ate the shit outta that soup... fuck it, when in Rome...
Next stop, Denpasar international. The flight from HK to Bali was an easy 5 hours. I was totally dorking out taking photos of every island or atoll we flew over and analyzed the landscapes far below my window seat. Arrival, very exciting, new land, the experience is picking up momentum, my heart is hammering, my senses are taking full inventory. The term "balmy" now has a reference with me. Next I have to say how awesome the people are here! Very friendly, lots of smiles and everyone says Hi, and they're beautiful.
After a ride to the surf camp which by ameican standards was absolute chaos, I arrive at surf camp, splendid compound, and the other guests are from all over the world and share friendly greeting. After settling we headed to the monkey temple in Uluwatu. An experience deserving of a blog of it's own, I will write on this when I've got time to do it justice. Now, it's off to a tapas bar as the sun sets on the Indian ocean.
